abc.xyz : erratum.xyz
01 September 2015 - By Matthieu Crédou
We all have to get used to the new TLDs – including me, given the mistake I made in a previous post. As pointed out to me by a more attentive Afnic colleague, the domainer I was talking about sold alphabet.xyz, not abc.xyz. My apologies for the error, no doubt due to a post-vacation syndrome.
Apart from my act of contrition, which will interest few, the good news for readers of this blog will perhaps be the discovery of a "new source of information" on domain names: a parody site, Domain Gang[1], the equivalent in our sector of France’s Gorafi and "the Onion" in the US.
The contributors to this site have imagined a conversation[2] between Larry Page, CEO of Google, and Daniel Negari, CEO of .XYZ (you can read it here). The imaginary transaction is around 250,000 dollars. Another more serious article mentions a price of 200,000 dollars. The prices seem plausible[3], but I’m still trying to confirm the cost of the deal. Interested readers take note.
Otherwise, Google bought the domain name through MarkMonitor, who registered the name in March 2014. The only price publically available is that of the annual renewal fee ($ 8.00).
